Project Overview: 4,000 SF New Construction
A basic square, plain room in a modern medical center required talent and inspiration to design a healing space for families in anguish. Nationally known artists were asked to participate in creating the ambiance for the St. Claire’s Chapel. A wall of stain-glass windows projects a rainbow of color into the chapel. Cast glass Stations of the Cross levitate over the stained glass. A life-size bronze sculpture of Jesus is placed over a lighted, recessed cross sculpted from the gypsum board. Art commissions creates an awe-inspiring and spiritually uplifting space for meditation and reflection within this medical center. Given the relatively small Chapel footprint, the design capitalizes on strong verticality, which creates an element of visual surprise upon entering the room. The chapel achieved a quiet, reflective, worship space within a hospital facility.
